Your Recovery Data

The Sober Legion is a peer support community, not a medical provider, health plan, or clearinghouse. We are not a HIPAA-covered entity, and the information you share here is not protected health information under HIPAA. We are also not a crisis service. Nothing on the Platform — including our AI assistant — is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Information you choose to provide that may relate to your health includes:

• Recovery status — your sobriety date, streaks, milestones, and the substance you are recovering from.
• Daily check-ins — mood, cravings, and how you are doing on a given day.
• Journal entries and any relapse-prevention plan you create.
• What you tell our AI assistant — messages you send to Lainy, including anything you share about mental health, cravings, trauma, or treatment.
• Voice input — if you use voice chat, the audio you record and its transcription.
• Content you post publicly about your recovery, and information in applications you submit (such as a scholarship application).

All of this is optional. You can use The Sober Legion without recording a sobriety date, checking in, journaling, or using the AI assistant.

• To provide the recovery tools you asked for — streaks, check-ins, journal, milestones, and plans.
• To generate AI responses when you message our assistant or use an AI-powered feature.
• To celebrate your milestones and send notifications you have opted into.
• To keep the community safe through moderation and crisis-signal review.

We do not sell your consumer health data, and we do not use it for advertising, profiling, or targeting.

We collect consumer health data only with your consent, which you give by choosing to use the feature that collects it. Sharing it with a service provider — for example, sending your message to an AI language model provider so it can generate a reply — is done to deliver the feature you requested. We will not sell your consumer health data, and we would seek your separate written authorization before doing anything that qualifies as a sale under applicable law.

You may withdraw consent at any time by stopping use of the feature, deleting the data, or contacting us. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already happened.

We share consumer health data only with processors that help us operate the Platform:

• AI language model providers — to generate assistant replies, transcribe voice input, and power AI features.
• Our hosting and database provider — to store your account and content.
• Email provider — to send notifications and transactional email you have opted into.

We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or law enforcement absent a valid legal obligation. Anything you post publicly to the community feed is visible to other members by nature — please share thoughtfully.

Your journal entries, check-ins, and relapse-prevention plan are private to your account and enforced by row-level access controls. Direct messages are visible only to you and the recipient. A small number of administrators can access data as needed for safety, moderation, and support.

We keep your consumer health data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, posts, comments, journal, check-ins, and private content within 30 days. Limited safety data about suspended or banned accounts may be retained as described in our Privacy Policy.

• Access — request a copy of the consumer health data we hold about you, and a list of who we have shared it with.
• Delete — request deletion of your consumer health data. We will delete it from our records and direct our processors to do the same.
• Withdraw consent — at any time, for collection or sharing.
• Appeal — if we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our response. If we deny the appeal, we will explain why and tell you how to contact your state Attorney General.

You can delete most of this yourself at any time in the app. For anything else, email us at sobersoldiersoutreach@gmail.com and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will never discriminate against you or restrict your access to the community for exercising these rights.

The Platform is strictly for adults 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect health information from anyone under 21. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 21, we remove the account and its associated data.
